A Great Man Has Passed

I've posted almost every year, on Dec 7th, about my friend Nate.

This is a link to the last.

Nate would have been 100 this Dec 3rd and we had a party planned for him.
We had every reason to believe he'd be there.

He saw Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Bastogne and received the Bronze Star.
He married his beautiful bride Norma who he met during the war and they came to Michigan and started Weiser Iron and Metal.

Scherie went to work for him 30 years ago and introduced us.
Before I met Scherie, he took our son Scott under his wing, helping Scherie raise him.

Nate and I (and Norma) became good friends.
He was wise counsel to me. He used to joke that he had adopted me.
I told him I wouldn't contest the will.

He was a blessing to those who knew him and many more who didn't.
He served in the Rotary of Wayne, Michigan for most of his life, guiding projects that benefited many.
Norma and his family could use your prayers.
So could Scherie. This has hit her hard.

  1. So Sorry you lost such a good friend.
    Always so hard.

We're all getting to that age aren't we.

  2. Damn, I'm truly sorry for your loss. I have no doubt that his character rubbed off on you, but I also hope that many more of our younger generation had an opportunity to know Nate. With the veterans of our generation passing swiftly....it's paramount to share and understand their experiences first hand....before we can't anymore.

    1. I updated with a photo of our son Scott and Nate.
Nate once took Scott (when he was young) to the Fairlane Country Club he was a member of. Scott asked what it took to be a member. Nate said hard work.
Scott is a COB on a fast attack now.

  4. I understand the love one feels for a friend. As I age my friends have become closer to me than family. Prayers for you and all those who knew and loved this special gentleman. It's so comforting to know that for those of us who believe in Jesus Christ, we'll all be together again. What a joyful day that will be! God bless. xx

  5. I'm reminded of George Patton's "Do not mourn" comment.
    How blessed you were/are!
