Will is a former Federal Prosecutor, former Federal Judge, worked in the State Department as an ambassador, taught Constitutional Law and retired before he figured out what he wanted to be when he grew up.
We discussed the concept of multiple witnesses (I reference Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon) and differing perspectives. Particularly regarding the Green killing in Minneapolis.
We talked about a number of other issues also.
What a treasure this guest is. Hearing sound legal approach on eliminating threat of life and a case for self defense helped me to lay this unfortunate event to rest.

ReplyDeleteIt's not an instant stopper, certainly not from a typical sidearm. It's right up there with "aim at the legs." Why? Is there a threat or isn't there?
We see him clearly standing to the right of her, taking back chat from her companion. He is not in the line of travel, and the wheels are turned hard left, away from him. The driver backed up and re-positioned the car to point it at him.
So the driver, charged with adrenaline and in a situation for which she has no smarts now has tunnel focus. Then you have agents screaming at her and it's very confusing. The last voice she probably heard was her companion yelling "drive, baby, drive" and her movement may have almost been reflexive in response to her and her own fear to get away. All in the space of mere seconds. Yeah, she did a stupid thing. Still a tragedy.

The biggest question I have pertains to 3 shots fired. Most training is to use bursts. Three shots over 10 seconds apart would be one thing, but this was almost instantaneous.
