Hmmmm, I just remembered that on this day in 1944, my Dad, my friend Nate Weiser and a few other guys went for a day at the beach and eventually saved Europe from the grip of National Socialism.
Joe (Hoosierboy.blogspot.com) also points out that it is the anniversary of Midway.
God Bless all those brave and selfless souls.

DeleteGotta be honest Nathan at Fuzzy Curmudgeon reminded me
ReplyDeleteThat was a show of courage one doesn't often see. Imagine letting go of those ships and walking into shore pretty much knowing the German bullets are going to get you? There are still HUGE divots in the sand on those beaches I've been to...and the German bunkers of concrete from which they shot out a small slit of a window haven't been able to be broken up and removed. Of course, now it's a good reminder of the history.
ReplyDeleteThose men deserve extra kudos and extra "Well dones" from God above.
My friend Nate and his landing craft got stuck on a sandbar, probably fortunately for him and his buddies.
