I've been thinking on this overnight.
If the other nations fold on tariffs, then we don't see our manufacturing base repair.
But if they do and we do, then it's free trade.
And the free traders who oppose tariffs get free trade because of... tariffs.
And our critical manufacturing stays offshore.
In my opinion, critical manufacturing will be hampered as long as the corruption of unions is present. In a perfect world, they could have a purpose. In the real world, they are a source for the grifters supposedly championing the "little guy". Adding the corruption of government only creates an environment where the most money buys the most favor; regardless of moral integrity. Tariffs reward the government, and little of that reward - if any - helps the taxpayer.
ReplyDeleteTrump has a tough row to hoe. His plan of promoting free trade is for good intentions, but we know what the road to Hell is paved with.
Well, I live in Michigan. You don't have to convince me.
