The New York Times Two-Step

"In a transcript of the newspaper’s crisis town-hall meeting, executive editor Dean Baquet grapples with a restive staff and outside scrutiny."

Read it here: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/08/new-york-times-meeting-transcript.html

I'm disappointed the audio is not available.
Baquet, at times, seems to want to be a little more fair-minded, but sees the knives out for him should he not relentlessly pursue Trump with charges of "Racism!", much less vilifying America as a racism based culture.

I'm surprised Slate printed this, but they probably did it to keep Baquet in line.
Yet it exposes the bias of the elite media against non-elites.

At this point, complaining about media behavior is almost pathetic.
Like beating your head against a wall to make a point.
They are what they are.
Their readers expect them to be that way and will not tolerate less.
There is little recourse to this behavior except to counter with the real news.
I simply don’t understand, though, why defamation, either libel or slander, is tolerated by our judicial system.
“Trump is a racist”.
Freedom of speech is one thing, this is a totally different thing.
There is only one other means to demand honor, and that too is frowned on.

  1. More and more people are learning the Emperor has no clothes and the NY Times is just another tabloid newspaper..meaningless in their reporting. Does anyone care? The progs will feed at their trough, happy enough to be feed their daily grog of dis-information.

    As in a duel?

    1. My father (1911-1998) often lamented that duels were no longer allowed. His lament was almost always in a political context, too.

    1. That's a "freedom" that should be denied.
If we have "Truth in Lending" laws, why can't we have "Truth in Defamation" laws?

  4. They will fail.
And when it happens, they'll point to the fact that ALL newspapers are failing.
I just hope they fail faster than others.
    How sad.

    1. Well, mine's failing.
Can't convince people that community newspaper readers are an advertising market.
Even though the advertisers I have, see traffic generated by the paper.

    3. Is it possible the traffic generated is insufficient to sustain their payments to you? And have they received threats from the Left "for keeping your rag afloat?" The former is common in a declining market, the latter from being threatened even once or even from hearing reports of same. Those threatened or fear being so rather not say. The fear that it might happen is the very reason the thugs do not have their butts trimmed by Leftist city halls. Shutting down the voice of opposition has never been more systemic in our lifetime.

    4. People are convinced that the internet is the place to advertise.
My advertisers stick with me because they see the return.
A car dealer called me today in a panic thinking he had missed the deadline.

  5. Yep. Liars, charlatans and hypocrites should ALL be mocked and derided. They bring shame on what's left of our Republic.
