I talked with Professor William Wagner about the recent Supreme Court case he participated in regarding Free Speech, 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis.
And one he hasn't, regarding Election Law Moore v. Harper.
This is big stuff.
The Jack Phillips Cake Baking case did not settle the law. 303 Creative v. Elenis will.
Moore v. Harper regards North Carolina judges redistricting (gerrymandering).
Regardless how you feel about gerrymandering, it's the job of the state legislature.
This has implications regarding Secretaries of State, Governors and judges directin how federal elctions are run, as was done in 2020 and 2022.

ReplyDeleteI think that the Respect for Marriage Act was created on the national stage to enact the discrimination that has been common within Colorado. Therefore, I am sure that we had better get ready to have to defend our views (and to be shouted down by the bullhorn carrying Left).
And be armed.
DeleteInteresting discussion. Those entrusted with protecting and enforcing the law do not want to do that.
ReplyDeleteAs for "truth" we've gone from an ancient more-or-less univocal understanding of Christianity and "truth" to the modernists who sought truth in varying interpretations. Then post modernists who have "your truth and my truth." I think we are actually in a post truth era, which acknowledges that there is objective truth but subordinates it to preferences.
WE look to facts to learn truth. But our culture has been trained to look within and elevate that above truth. So presenting facts, logic and evidence has even less of an impact than in an age where truth was valued.
I don't think 'people' will get sick of the drug of socialism because they do not know they are on it. It's called by other names like equity and fairness. We can hit bottom and lower and 'people' will get used to the new common denominator. They are constantly told it is their "right" and ears will listen selectively to what serves their interests.
