ReplyDeleteThat's what 21st century "masculinity" is trying to do, and why it's creating such a mess.
Abdu Murray calls ours the Post Truth Era. The German higher critic of the 19th century held to truth. Objective truth at that. They disagreed on interpretations. Then we got to the post modern era in the 70's where the notion of objective truth was rejected. "You have your truth, I have mine." Now it's post truth. "Truth is not a values."
Your caller is right about "hormones" in food. Actually hormone mimics (like plasticizers) that are close enough to attach to hormone receptors but don't make them work like real hormones do.

Is the issue behind masculinity just the conflict created when guys do what is natural to them and compete? When competition occurs, there is a loser and winner. Furthermore, such competition on the masculine side might be physical competition; therefore, teeth may be broken or chipped.
ReplyDeleteNone of that is really the touchy-feely stuff that makes it into the movies that the ladies prefer. Therefore, might it just be the overall issue?

DeleteReally, I think you touched on the real reason that we have this issue when you cited Blazing Saddles. Much of this is an issue of people protecting their "phony balony jobs."
